INDX Conversion Kit for CORE One L+

Combine up to eight filaments in a single print

Each material is loaded into an individual toolhead, and the INDX Smart Head picks them as necessary to create beautiful, colorful objects fully automatically. It's extremely fast and highly efficient - each filament change produces waste the size of a grain of rice. And you keep the 60°C chamber for printing large objects without warping.

Made for

Prusa CORE One L and L+

Upgrade your large-format 3D printer with this kit. Everything you need is in the package, including instructions and tools. If you don't have a printer yet, you may consider buying a brand new one, factory-calibrated and tested, with the INDX pre-installed.

The INDX - A brief overview

Three numbers that define the INDX

  • COMBINE COLORS & MATERIALS

    Up to 8 Tools

For beautiful, colorful prints with virtually zero waste and no color cross-contamination

  • Per Material Swap

    Only ~12 s

The INDX is the fastest 8-tool solution on the market, bar none

  • Plastic waste per one swap

    ~0.013 g

No huge pile of plastic poop next to your printer, no massive wipe tower stealing print volume

The Best Material Combinations

Go beyond mere colors and take your projects to the next level with material mixing!

  • Easy Support Removal

Print intricate internal cavities and overhangs using dedicated support materials. Use a different material for supports so they separate cleanly.

  • Integrated Soft Grips

Fuse flexible TPU directly onto rigid PETG or PLA tool handles during printing - eliminating secondary assembly and adhesives.

  • Structural + Flexible

Pair durable Polycarbonate enclosures with flexible TPU seals or compliant hinges for strong, functional parts.

  • ColorMix Printing

Blend five or even six filament spools to generate dozens of custom fullspectrum color shades without constant manual spool swaps.

Painting colors onto a model in EasyPrint

Free software, no PC required

Paint any model in color, on your phone or tablet

EasyPrint runs in a browser, so a phone or tablet is enough to prepare a print. Tap a surface, choose a color, and send it to the machine. When you want deeper control, use PrusaSlicer on Windows, Mac, or Linux. Both are free with the printer.

What's in the conversion kit

You can pick the 8-Tool kit or a 4-Tool kit (it can be later upgraded to 8 tools). In both cases, you will receive everything you need to install the kit, including a toolset and an easy-to-follow guide. The installation requires you to diassemble a part of your machine, remove the extruder and install the new parts. Users report it takes them about 5-6 hours. The CORE One L+ with the INDX upgrade installed has a print volume of 298×275×330mm.

INDX Smart Head
A brand-new dynamic extruder designed by Bondtech. Features an automatic tool picker, super-fast induction heating, and wireless temperature sensing.
4 or 8 Passive Toolheads
The toolheads are one of the best things on the INDX - they are entirely passive and feature no electronics. Simple, effective, and inexpensive design. Built-in 0.4mm nozzle.
Tool Offset Sensor
A state-of-the-art tool offset sensor ensures that all the colors are aligned perfectly. Your prints will look just as good as on the stock CORE One L.
Wiper and waste bin
A silicone wiper primes the nozzle so you don't need a leftover block of plastic next to the model. The leftover plastic drops into a waste bin.

The Innovations that Drive the INDX

Only one active component - less complexity, lower price, easier to use. Printing with up to 8 materials may seem like a complex job. Here's how we made it so effortless.

High-Speed Nozzle Swapping in Just 12 Seconds

Single-nozzle multi-material systems spend roughly 42 seconds on every single filament swap. They must retract, cut, feed, and flush the hotend, wasting time and plastic on every layer. The INDX toolchanger is much more efficient - requires merely 12s per change.

indx head

Cold in the Dock, Hot in Seconds

The moving head carries an induction coil which heats the nozzle wirelessly in seconds. It grips a nozzle, brings it to working temperature nearly instantly, and lets it cool again the moment it parks, so it does not ooze.

indx nozzle

Active Head, Passive Toolchangers

Each parked tool is a nozzle and a dock - no electronics. All the intelligence lives in the head that collects them, so adding four more tools is inexpensive - it's four passive nozzle instead of four active toolheads.

first layer

The nozzle measures the bed before every print

The tip presses down on the sheet and a load cell reads the force, so the machine knows exactly where the bed is. This is much more precise than optical solutions, and you can switch nozzles and tools as much as you want without recalibrating the printer every time.

Nozzle Wiper

Advanced Nozzle Wiper

The built-in two-way nozzle wiper is the key to beautiful prints and minimum waste. Every time a new tool is picked up, only a tiny fraction of plastic is extruded to stabilize the pressure in the nozzle. The nozzle is cleaned to prevent any stray blobs from contaminating the print.

Self‑adjusting grip for different materials

Soft materials need a gentler grip than rigid, fiber-filled ones. The INDX features a unique mechanism that adjusts the drive gear tension automatically, so you can move from TPU to rigid engineering filaments without stopping to retune the extruder.

Always Ready to Print

Load eight filaments, install different nozzle sizes from 0.25 to 0.8. When you start a print, everything's already ready and loaded. Just pick the right tool. If you like to use different filaments and nozzles, and hate constantly swapping everything around, the INDX is the solution for you.

offset sensor

Automatic Tool Offset Calibration

The state-of-the-art offset calibration system is permanently mounted outside the print area. 20x Faster than calibration pin: It takes just 15 seconds per toolhead. Improved Repeatability: Streamlines setup while delivering highly consistent results.

Questions & Answers

Does the INDX work with my existing CORE One L (without the plus upgrade)?

Yes, you will end up with CORE One L with INDX. The INDX was co-developed with Prusa specifically for the CORE One architecture. It is not compatible with MK4S, MK3S+, or other printers.

Does the CORE One+ INDX kit fit CORE One L+?

No. The CORE One+ INDX conversion kit is a different product. Do not order that kit for the CORE One L+.

Should I get the 4-tool or 8-tool kit?

Start with the 4-tool kit if you want to try multi-material without committing to the full 8. You can add individual passive tools later. The 8-tool kit gives the best per-tool value and you can print truly complex objects right from the start.

How much build volume do I lose?

About 15 mm in the Y-axis and 2mm in X-axis due to the docking station and purge collector additions. On the CORE One L+ (250 × 220 × 270 mm base volume), the total build volume with the INDX mounted is 248×205×270 mm.

Does it work with third-party filament?

Yes. the INDX can be used with 1.75 mm filament from any manufacturer. No RFID, no proprietary spools, no vendor lock-in. Use Prusament, third-party brands, or whatever you have on the shelf.

How does this compare to the Prusa XL toolchanger?

The XL is our large-format toolchanger with a 360 x 360 x 360 mm build volume. If you need big parts, fast swaps, or upcoming specialty toolheads (silicone printing, pick-and-place for embedded inserts), the XL is the right machine. The INDX on a CORE One L+ gives you a smaller print volume (298×275×330mm), more tools (8 vs 5), an enclosed chamber with elevated temperature (55°C), and a lower total price. Think of it this way: the XL is for people who need the build volume and a full-scale active toolchanger. The INDX is for people who want the most material flexibility in a compact, enclosed format. Both are toolchangers with negligible purge waste. They just serve different use cases.

How does the nozzle calibration work?

the INDX conversion kit includes a brand new toolhead offset calibration system, which is permanently mounted outside the print area. The result is an easier and faster setup with perfect repeatability.

What are the CORE One dimensions with INDX installed?

With doors closed and spools attached, Width 620 mm, Height 690 mm, Depth 470 mm.

How long does the conversion take?

CORE One+ INDX owners report 5–6 hours including on-screen setup. We'll publish the L+ guide with this kit. The printer is out of use while you install.
