Why the XL+ Toolchanger Wins

True Multi-Material
Five tools and a huge print volume. Mix rigid, flexible, soluble, and different nozzle sizes in one job - perfect print quality, no cross-contamination.

Fastest Tool Swaps
Super fast switching & top reliability. Tools are swapped in seconds, while filament-switching solutions waste dozens of seconds on purging and reloading.

Zero purge waste
Save kilograms of filament in the long run. Each toolhead keeps its own nozzle, so multi-material jobs don’t fill a bin with kilograms of plastic scrap.

Future-Proof Platform
Swappable toolheads beyond just 3D printing and a wide range of upgrades & accessories. No vendor locks and full offline operation.

Massive Build Volume, Standard Desktop Footprint
Large-Format 3D Printing on Any Workbench
Industrial large-format printing typically requires heavy three-phase power, custom ventilation, and a dedicated installation crew. The Prusa XL+ delivers a whopping 360 × 360 × 360 mm build volume in a footprint that easily fits on a standard workbench, weighs just 30 kg, and runs on a standard household outlet. Designed to run unattended for days on end, the XL+ features smart filament runout sensors that pause and switch materials automatically, and robust power-loss recovery to resume printing seamlessly after power cuts. Perfect for workshops, labs, and design studios running weekend-long production prints.

Up to 60°C in the Chamber
Print larger objects with zero warping.
The XL+ is designed to withstand elevated temperatures right from the factory. At any point, you can install an optional Prusa Enclosure XL+ to create a chamber with a stable printing environment and temperatures up to 50°C. Add an external heater (upcoming add-on) and bring it up to 60 °C! This provides improved performance with advanced materials, such as ASA or PA11CF. The new Enclosure is compatible with the XL+ only!

What's new in XL+
The XL received a number of important upgrades that make the user experience and print quality better, speeds faster, and operation easier and even more reliable.
- Faster calibration
- The XL aligned its toolheads with a mechanical pin - accurate, but lengthy. The XL+ uses a dedicated electronic sensor to align toolheads fully automatically.
- Faster printing
- The XL+ prints 10–15% faster than the XL. On a 60-hour prop print, that's roughly eight hours back - one more evening in the workshop, or one more batch per day in production.
- New Belts for Better Quality
- The new GT1.5 belts also bring a visible improvement. They help make fine repeating artifacts less noticeable, which is especially useful on the large, smooth surfaces the XL is often used to print.
- Cooling rebuilt for long runs
- New, improved cooling on individual toolheads leads to perfect print quality and outstanding overhang performance - your prints will look better and you'll need fewer supports. Plus, there are additional fans and heatsinks to cool down the electronics.
- A Nozzle Wiper
- At the start of every print, every nozzle is cleaned using the nozzle wiper - more precise pre-print calibration, better looking prints.
- A reliable firmware foundation
- Every feature we shipped across the whole Prusa lineup since the XL launched is in the XL+ out of the box.
What Makes It Work
The Tech Behind the XL+

Internally-Developed Toolchanger
Each self-contained XL+ toolhead carries its own extruder, hotend, nozzle, and filament. Parked heads stay preheated for instant material swaps and auto-power down when unused. It is still the market's largest, fastest, and only active toolchanger capable of swapping whole tool types.

Unique Segmented Heatbed
Huge single-piece heatbeds warp and waste power heating empty space. The XL+ solves this with 16 individually controlled tiles across its 360 × 360 mm surface, powering only the active print area to eliminate heat warping. Perfect first layer + power savings.

Loadcell: the nozzle is the sensor
The XL+ uses the Loadcell sensor to measure the distance between the nozzle and the print surface. This is the most accurate and reliable method in the entire industry. It automatically accounts for nozzle changes, surface textures, and thermal expansion - completely eliminating manual Z-offsets and surface reflection errors.

Nextruder and quick-swap nozzles
The direct-drive Nextruder feeds filament with enough finesse for soft TPU and enough force for carbon-fiber composites, up to 290 °C. Nozzles can be swapped easily in minutes: 0.25 mm for miniature detail, 0.6 or 0.8 mm for speed, hardened steel for abrasives, high-flow CHT for production throughput. With five heads, one job can run five different nozzle strategies at once.

CoreXY motion, fine-tuned
A rigid CoreXY frame moves the light printhead instead of the heavy bed. Input Shaper cancels frame vibration, Phase Stepping smooths the motors themselves, and the XL+'s new 1.5 mm GT belts eliminate fine artifacts. You'll get both high speed and the perfect print quality in one package.

Beyond plastic: swappable tool types
Because each toolhead is self-contained, the docks are really sockets for capabilities. A silicone-printing toolhead, co-developed with Filament2 and exclusive to the XL platform, arrives in Q4 2026 - you will be able to print with real silicone on a desktop machine.
What companies actually do with these machines
Documented results from published Prusa Stories and manufacturing case studies. Different teams, different Prusa models, one pattern: the printed parts hold up in production.

13,000 delayed cars prevented - Škoda Auto

Designer Loudspeakers from Upcycled Materials
Infinite Acoustics is an acoustics company that creates 3D-printed speaker cabinets using recycled materials, breathing new life into industrial and consumer waste. The company’s products are built on demand in local micro-factories to minimize their carbon footprint and enable customized, on-demand production.

Mechatronics and R&D teams run Prusa print farms to prototype custom sensors, safety hardware and structural elements for accelerator projects.
Best Security & Reliability
Why the XL+ is the number one choice for demanding industries.
Perfect Repeatability
What you design is what you print: the loadcell-probed first layer, the rigid CoreXY frame and automatic per-toolhead offsets hold dimensions across reprints and across machines. Qualify a part once, then reprint it with the same quality.
Reliability with a paper trail
Our own print farm logs over a million testing hours every quarter, and current-generation Prusa printers hold excepional print reliability there. The XL+ ships with every fix we prepared in the last two years - It's perfect, day one.
The certifications HSE asks about
CE and FCC compliant. Prusa is the first consumer 3D printer maker with UL 2904 GREENGUARD certification for indoor emissions (MK4S with Prusament PLA/PETG), and the Advanced Filtration System covers shared workspaces. Prusa Research is ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certified.
Security your IT team can audit
Offline-first by design: no forced cloud, no phone-home, open-source firmware you can read, removable Wi-Fi module. Designed and manufactured in the EU and USA (including our own PCB production in Prague) with TAA-compliant configurations for government and defense procurement.

Frequently Asked Questions
I've never owned a 3D printer. Is this too much machine?
No - the XL+ does the demanding parts itself. It calibrates everything on its own (first layer, toolhead offsets), so setup is: unbox, attach toolheads, run the assisted calibration, load filament, press print. You get a printed handbook, a free Prusa Academy course (with assembled printers) and 24/7 human support.
What exactly is new compared to the Original Prusa XL?
Automatic tool offset calibration (replacing the mechanical pin routine), reworked toolhead cooling, a nozzle wiper, 1.5 mm GT belts for improved print quality, higher print speed, and firmware that ships with two years of features developed across all Prusa printers. Build volume, the toolchanger design and material support carry over unchanged. The XL+ is compatible with the new Prusa Enclosure XL+ and external heater addon.
MMU3, INDX, or the XL+ toolchanger?
MMU3: the affordable single-nozzle filament switcher - up to five filaments, purge waste contained in a large solid wipe tower, great for color prints on smaller printers. INDX: up to eight materials on the CORE One+ and CORE One L, with induction-heated passive tools and near-zero waste. Assembly required. XL+ toolchanger: five complete always-hot printheads, possible zero purge, the fastest swaps, the biggest volume, and swappable non-FDM tools. If your parts are large or multi-material work is your daily bread, the XL+ is built for it.
Can I start with one toolhead and add more later?
Yes. Every XL+ ships on the same frame with the same electronics. Going from Single-tool to Dual or Five-tool takes an upgrade kit and an afternoon.
Do I need an Enclosure?
Not for PLA and PETG - most people start there. Add the Enclosure+ (50 °C chamber) when you want large ASA or ABS parts: outdoor fixtures, automotive parts, acetone-smoothable props. Choose the external-heater version (60 °C) for polycarbonate and nylon - structural, heat-resistant parts.
What happens when filament runs out mid-print - or the power cuts?
Each toolhead has filament sensors: the printer pauses, asks for a new spool, and continues. With Spool Join it switches to the next loaded spool automatically - up to 10 kg of filament without touching the machine. After a power failure, it recovers the print where it stopped.
Does it need a cloud account?
No. The XL+ works fully offline - slicing, printing, firmware updates. Prusa Connect remote monitoring exists and is optional. Your designs stay on your hardware.
What's the warranty, and what happens if something breaks?
Every XL+ comes with a 2-year warranty in the EU (1 year in the US, per local law), a 60-day money-back guarantee, 24/7 human support in seven languages, and guaranteed spare-part availability. Nothing inside is glued or welded - when a part wears out, you swap it yourself with a screwdriver.
Prusa XL+ or CORE One L?
CORE One L: enclosed, ~30 l, one material at a time (INDX multi-material kit planned), less money - a superb single-material workhorse. XL+: 46.7 l - over 50% more volume - and up to five materials in one job today. If multi-material work or maximum size brought you here, you want the XL+. The full three-model comparison is in the Compare section above.
